Van Cleef & Arpels Has Cooperated With MNHN and Launches the Gems Exhibition
The jewelry company, called Van Cleef & Arpels has cooperated with MNHN in Paris to present the Gems exhibition. The goal of the event is to show how valuable stones, formed from minerals, can be transformed into pieces of jewelry through craftsmanship.
Van Cleef & Arpels and MNHN’s collaboration began in 2016 in Singapore when they both held The Art and Science of Gems exhibition. And this year’s show pays attention to minerals, gemstones, and scientific aspects bringing together art and science.
As MNHN has one of the world’s most expensive collections of mineralogy, the House wanted to share these amazing creations with visitors. The first section of their joint project examines the original formation of minerals and then tracks their development over time. The second part explores natural phenomena that affect stones, rocks, and crystals before turning them into jewelry.
At the end of the exhibition, the unique item, created by Van Cleef & Arpels special for Gems, will be presented. Rock of Marvels is made of rough and polished stones and was designed as a mineral sculpture. The object features nine high jewelry pieces that you can wear as a ring, pendant, earrings, or bracelet. The team spent almost two years creating this object along with its nine creations.
The items presented at MNHN have been carefully selected by the curators. The project also required good organization, and it brought researchers, historians, designers, scientists, and architects together. For them, it was more than a challenge, working and sharing a common vision, and finally, it became a real success.
