The future outstanding couturier was born on May 11, 1932, in northern Lombardy in the small town of Voghera, in an ordinary, unremarkable Italian Catholic family. Mother Teresa de Biaggi was a housewife, and father Mauro Garavani sold electric bulbs.

Later, Valentino repeatedly called himself a spoiled child: as a child, he asked his parents to make his clothes to order, fulfilling all his requirements-down to the location of the buttons on the blazer and the stripes on the sweaters. At the age of seven, Garavani saw a cousin in a pink tulle ballgown and realized that he wanted to become a couturier.

Women’s and men’s fashion interested Valentino during his high school studies in the city of Voghera, located in northern Italy. This happened after the boy was apprenticed to a local fashion designer, Ernestine Salvadeo. When Valentino was seventeen, his parents helped him move to Paris, where he began studying fashion. In the French capital, the young man studied at the School of Fine Arts, as well as in the High Fashion Syndicate.

Valentino fashion designer first worked for Balenciaga in the French capital and then got a job at Jean Desses, where he created sketches for dresses created by Countess Jacqueline d’ribet. After that, he worked with Guy Laroche for a couple of years. Valentino’s early sketches have barely survived. Five years later, Valentino left Jean Desses. The reason for his departure was an incident with a prolonged vacation in Saint-Tropez. After talking with his parents, he decided to return to Italy. In 1978, the designer presented his first Valentino fragrance, and in 1982, at the invitation of the Diana Vreeland Costume Institute, he showed the couture collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. In 1984, he created a uniform for the Italian Olympic team – especially for the Summer Games in Los Angeles, in 1985 he introduced a line of denim, in 1987-a line of bags, and two years later – held a show of a new, more democratic line of Oliver at Milan Fashion Week.

Upon returning home, he opens a full-fledged Fashion House, where the first-star client becomes Elizabeth Taylor, who leads to Valentino and other celebrities.
