Women’s and men’s fashion interested Valentino during his high school studies in the city of Voghera, located in northern Italy. This happened after the boy was apprenticed to a local fashion designer, Ernestine Salvadeo. When Valentino was seventeen, his parents helped him move to Paris, where he began studying fashion. In the French capital, the young man studied at the School of Fine Arts, as well as in the High Fashion Syndicate.

In 1978, the designer presented his first Valentino fragrance, and in 1982, at the invitation of the Diana Vreeland Costume Institute, he showed the couture collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. In 1984, he created a uniform for the Italian Olympic team – especially for the Summer Games in Los Angeles, in 1985 he introduced a line of denim, in 1987-a line of bags, and two years later – held a show of a new, more democratic line of Oliver at Milan Fashion Week.
