The Founder of a Bathing Ape, Nigo, Became Kenzo’s New Creative Director
For only a couple of months, the position of Kenzo’s creative director was available. Felipe Oliveira Baptista left the French brand with Japanese roots in April after two years of work. Well, now his place will be taken by Nigo- the founder of A Bathing Ape.
The designer, whose real name is Tomoaki Nagao, is familiar with the luxury brand’s archives and the works of the founder of the brand Kenzo Takada like no one else.
In 1970, when Nigo was born, the brand’s first boutique was opened in Paris. In addition, Tomoaki and Takada graduated from the same institution- Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo. The founder and designer of the iconic streetwear brand even has a collection of brand archives and considers Takada to be his teacher.
The Japanese designer will start work on September 20 and the first results of his work will be shown next January. Known for his love for streetwear, he will give us models inspired by the archives of the brand but with sports elements.
