Now that you have all the things you need to successfully handle acrylic nail removal at home, it’s time for me to walk you through the process.

Step one is optional, but definitely my favorite step of them all. This step has almost nothing to do with the actual removal of your acrylic nails, and everything to do with setting the mood. If you aren’t able to get to the nail salon to pamper yourself, why not pamper yourself from the comfort of your own home? Any chance I get to add some self-love into my life I jump on, I think you should too. For this step, you will get your diffuser and music. Find a playlist that will calm your nervous system, something you love and makes you happy. Put this playlist on and enjoy. Grab your diffuser and add some lavender essential oil. Lavender promotes a sense of calm and is also an anti-bacterial, so a good choice when dealing with nail care. Dim the lights and get ready to partake in the best way to take off acrylic nails at home.

Step two on how to off your acrylic nails at home with acetone is one of the trickier steps, although totally achievable if done with care. What you are going to do is grab your towel and strong nail file. Laying the towel down to prevent any potential mess, begin to buff away the top layer of your acrylic nails. What we want to do in this step is to remove some of the acrylics in order to speed up the process once using the acetone. This step is tricky because you want to try your best to not cut or damage the skin surrounding your nails as this will cause irritation in the future. Simply take your time and everything will be okay.

After filing and buffing down your nails, it is time to introduce your acetone. You will now grab your cotton balls, tin foil, and acetone. Cut yourself ten 5×2 inch strips of tin foil and ten cotton balls. Soak one cotton ball in acetone, place it on your nail, I like to start with my pinky finger on my left hand and work my way over to my right hand. Taking a strip of tinfoil, wrap the soaked cotton ball securely to your nail. Repeat this on every nail until all of your fingers are wrapped. Allow your nails to soak like this for anywhere from 10 – 30 minutes. Breathe in the lavender aromas from your diffuser and relax.

Once your nails have soaked, it’s time to remove the foil and cotton balls. Any of the acrylic substance that was left on your nails following your buffing session should now be soft and ready to scrape off. Grabbing your nail scraper, you will gently remove any of the excess acrylic left on your natural nail. This should not be a forced process. If you are noticing yourself having to scrape extra hard, soak your nails for more time as this step should be simple and pain-free. The last thing we want to do is damage any of the healthy nails we have left.
