Nike Follows Facebook in the Metaverse and Will Sell Its Virtual Products
A week after Facebook announced switching to Meta to focus on the metaverse, where people can meet and communicate from virtually any device. And Nike is among the first major brands to enter the metaverse.
It became known that the company has filed several applications for registration in the United States of trademarks, which will allow the company to sell virtual branded clothing and shoes. On October 27 and 28, seven applications were received relating to the Nike, Just Do IT, Jordan, and Air Jordan trademarks and images.
Thus, Nike is gearing up to sell shoes, clothing, hats, glasses, bags, sports bags, backpacks, sports equipment, art objects, toys, and accessories in online virtual worlds: games and online stores. The company has already partnered with online gaming Fortnite and Roblox where players could purchase branded sneakers and clothing for their playable characters.
In addition, Nike is looking for employees to work in this direction. The company recently uploaded a job posting for virtual shoe designers and other virtual design roles. This is the first step for the US company to deploy virtual products in the metaverse space.
