Marie-Antoinette’s Bracelets, Estimated at $ 2–4 Million, Will Be Auctioned

Christie’s will put up for sale in Geneva two bracelets with diamonds worn by Marie-Antoinette. The auction is scheduled for November 9th. The estimated value of the Queen of France jewelry varies between 2-4 million dollars. As a result of the auction, the starting amount is expected to be exceeded many times.
The event will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Geneva. Besides the wife of Louis XVI’s pieces, the auction will also feature jewelry from such brands as Bulgari, Cartier, Chopard, Boucheron, and Van Cleef & Arpels.
It is reported that the weight of diamonds in bracelets ranges from one to four carats. The total weight of stones on jewelry, according to the auction house, ranks from 140 to 150 carats. Each of the bracelets is adorned with three rows of diamonds, and they can be combined into one necklace.

The bracelets were ordered by Marie-Antoinette from the jeweler Charles Auguste Boehmer in 1776 in Paris for 250 thousand livres. In the 18th century, this was a huge amount. The Queen was accused of profligacy and love of luxury while the people of France were in poverty. After she was arrested, then in October 1793 she was executed.
