It’s that time of the year again. The night when all of the witches, warlocks, mummies, and ghosts alike come out to play! With Halloween quickly approaching, you may be trying to throw together a last-minute costume using the array of clothes living in the depths of your closet. I suggest you stop looking for the perfect costume and start looking for the perfect Halloween makeup ideas! There’s nothing that gets the crowd talking more than these spooky Halloween makeup looks. There are a lot of cool Halloween makeup ideas floating around the internet so I have composed a list of my TOP 5 best Halloween makeup ideas. I would like to point out that these are women’s Halloween makeup ideas and Halloween makeup ideas for men alike! The less spooky ones are also great Halloween makeup ideas for kids! Let’s make this Halloween an inclusive one! Let’s get started!
First up on the list is definitely one of the more easy Halloween makeup looks. Just because the Black Cat is an easy look to accomplish does not mean it should be skipped over. This is one of my favorite Halloween makeup ideas for women and men as it can be executed in a very sophisticated manner. Although the Black Cat is quite common, if executed properly can be one of the best Halloween face makeup ideas to accomplish. The nice thing about this makeup look is that it only requires black eyeshadow, black eyeliner, and black lipstick. For this look, you will begin by completing your foundation as you normally would. You will then create a smokey eye with intense cat eyeliner. Next, you will then draw an upside-down triangle on the tip of your nose and a line connecting your nose to your upper lip. For your lips, you will simply fill in your top lip. For the finishing touches, you will add dots and whiskers to your upper lip on either side of the line. To take this look to the next level you can pair it with some spooky eye contacts such as red or green. Pair this makeup look with an all-black outfit of your choice and you’re good to go!
The next Halloween face makeup idea we will be covering is one of my favorites. This is one of the many Halloween makeup ideas for girls and boys as it rates low on the spook-o-meter. This look requires a pigmented yellow eyeshadow, a yellow or orange liquid eyeliner, yellow fake eyelashes, and a yellow lipstick. The addition of faux yellow flowers to add to your hair are optional but recommended. You will begin this look by completing your face makeup as you normally would. Feel free to exaggerate your blush to provide the look with a more sun-kissed appearance. Next, you will create a yellow smokey eye topped off with orange liquid eyeliner and yellow fake eyelashes. After completing your eyes, you will move onto covering your lips with yellow lipstick. Topping your lipstick with a clear gloss as well as adding a highlighter to places you want to shine will take this look to the next level. Now is the time to add the fake flowers if you have them. Braid your hair and add the flowers sporadically throughout. Pair this cute Halloween makeup look with a yellow outfit and there you have it, the yellow flower look.
Moving onto a more scary Halloween makeup look we will talk about the zombie makeup tutorial. There is no ‘correct’ way to execute your Halloween zombie makeup ideas. This look allows for a lot of freedom and creativity. For this look, you will need, white face powder, black eyeshadow, red eyeshadow, brown eyeshadow, black liquid eyeliner, dark lipstick, and fake blood. If you don’t have these specific eyeshadow colors, fear not. Any dark eyeshadow palette will do, though the fake blood is a must! To begin this look you will complete your face makeup with a base of your foundation. Over this, you will dust the white powder over your skin to give a washed-out look. Taking your dark shadows, you will create dark circles around your eyes. These circles should gradually fade out the farther away from your eye you get. To emphasize the shadow you will add black liquid eyeliner. Feel free to take some of the dark shadows into the creases where you would normally add contour to create a more concave look to your face, emphasizing the cheekbones. For your lips, you will apply your dark lipstick of choice and add fake blood around your mouth. Feel free to smear it or let it drip. The goal is to make it look like you have just bitten into the flesh of a human, as zombies often do. Throw on some old raggedy, ripped up clothing and your zombie look is complete!
This next one falls under the category of pretty Halloween makeup ideas as well as simple Halloween makeup ideas. What you will need for this look is a warm makeup palette consisting of browns, beiges, and purples, a brown liquid eyeliner, a warm-toned lipstick, glitter, eyelash glue, and fake butterflies. Like all of the other looks mentioned so far, you will begin this look with your normal foundation routine. When it is time for the eyes, you will create a warm smokey eye. Try incorporating colors such as brown, mauve, and beige. You can even mix in some browns with orange undertones. To complete the eye look you will add a thin line of brown liquid eyeliner across your upper lash line. Feel free to extend the wing as short or long as you would like. Taking your glitter, add some to the parts of your face you want the light to catch. Your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose, and even the corner of your eyes. The more glitter the better. Once your makeup is complete, it’s time to add the butterflies. Get creative with your placement of the butterflies and adhere them on using your eyelash glue. In the past, I have added them to my temple, the bridge of my nose, my cheeks, and even my collar bone region. You can wear anything you would like with this look but I find that earth tones work best.
Last but not least we are going to talk about the Halloween costume makeup ideas that will help you achieve the best Vampire look at the party. Although common, the Vampire can win the best costume award if executed properly. For this look, you will need white face powder, red eyeshadow, black eyeshadow, black liquid eyeliner, red eyeliner, black fake eyelashes, red lipstick, black lipstick, and fake blood. Using eye contacts and fake fangs are optional but definitely tie the look together. Starting off this look you will apply your base of the foundation. Going over this you will add your light powder to create that paler appearance. For your eyes you will create a smokey eye, having the base of your eyelid covered in red. You will blend and extend your black shadow into your crease. Topping this off you will add a dramatic winged eyeliner look and your fake lashes, the bigger the better. Below your eyes, you will take your red eyeliner and try to create small veins. This will take your vampire look to the next level, letting your friends know that you are hungry for blood. For your lips, you will try to create an ombre effect. Starting with red on the inner lips working your way out to black. With your fake blood, you will add one single drip from the corner of your mouth. Now would be the time to pop in your fake eye contacts and fangs. If using contacts, I would choose red to make your eyes appear to be bloodshot. Slip into a sleek black outfit and throw on a cape. You are guaranteed to be the scariest Vampire at the gathering.
Now that your mind is filled with spooky Halloween makeup ideas, it’s time to get creative. All of the Halloween eye makeup ideas mentioned above are flexible in their process and execution. Feel free to tweak these looks to make them more customized and personal. In my opinion, it’s not always about what you dress up as, but rather all about how you execute the look. This Halloween, choose to dedicate a lot of time to your makeup and I guarantee you will be a show stopper. Also, the nicer your Halloween makeup look, the better the Halloween selfie. To finish this off, I would like to touch on the use of masks this Halloween. If you are heading off to a small and safe spooky gathering this year, remember that the pandemic is still in full swing. Masks are important in stopping the spread of Covid-19. So this year, make your mask a part of your costume. If you are going to be wearing a mask the whole time, take your Halloween eye makeup look to the next level. Like I said, get creative! I hope you have a spooktastic Halloween!
