Everyone has wished at one point that a magical genie would bestow upon them the number one skincare product in the universe that will make their skin flawless and beautiful. Skin can be a tricky organ to maintain, with many things affecting your skin’s natural balance like hydration, temperature, humidity, sugar consumption, sleep, sensitivity, stress, and natural aging. That’s why you need quality skincare products to help you manage all that life throws at you. So here are some of the most recommended skincare products available for purchase.
Personal experience with skincare
Before we get into the list of products, I want to tell you a little bit about my own personal experience with skincare. Something that I know I am not alone in struggling with is acne due to hormonal birth control. I know many women have issues with breakouts when they are on new birth control or throughout the course of taking birth control, but for me, the acne really got bad when I went off the pill.
As a teen, I got a few pimples here and there, but I never had full force breakouts, so when I started to break out very severely earlier this year, I was in no way prepared for the emotional toll. Every time I looked in the mirror all I could see was a face I didn’t recognize, a face covered in swollen red acne bumps. I tried a lot of at-home methods, misdiagnosed myself, and dealt with a lot of insecurity showing my face in public.
Many times, we consider skin health and acne to be something of a personal hygiene issue instead of a medical one. I was under a lot of stress and had gone off of the birth control pill a few months before the breakouts got bad and what I really needed for this severity of acne was a visit to the dermatologist.
Once I saw a dermatologist, I have prescribed a mild antibiotic/anti-inflammatory and my skin cleared up. I learned a lot about how your skin, and the rest of your body for that matter, have to have a proper balance of specific microorganisms (good bacteria) in order to stay healthy.
The skin is the largest organ in the body and its job is to keep intruders (bad bacteria, viruses, and parasites) and to purge toxins or waste. When you have an issue with your skin, it can affect your mental health too, because your face is typically the first thing people look at and you don’t want people to see it as unhealthy or unattractive. I may have a few scars which hopefully will continue to fade as time goes on, but I am a lot happier now that my face isn’t covered with acne. That being said, when I was going through these major breakouts, I realized how normal it is to have acne, and even found some beautiful models and influencers who are showcasing their acne as a beauty statement rather than a flaw.
Visit a dermatologist
So my message to you is, no matter whether you’re young or old, what your gender is, or what your experience with acne has been so far, your skin doesn’t define you! And if you have really bad acne, see a dermatologist rather than trying to diagnose yourself through a combination of what worked for other people and overwhelming internet searches. I definitely did some things that only further aggravated my skin and the number one thing was stress. I also tried using honey, which works for some people but not me, and a variety of different creams. A big tip is to use natural creams and cleansers, and not to over-wash your face which will just strip it of its natural oils. What are the best skin products you ask? Here are some products that I would advise you to look into for a good regular maintenance skincare regime.
